Competitions

swimmers racing diveOnce swimmers have moved up from the width (learners and improvers) sessions and into the squads, we encourage them to enter the Club Championships, galas, swim in the Moonraker League (the local Wiltshire league) and also open meets.

The Wiltshire leagues run a series of galas in both the Summer and Winter and once a swimmer is chosen to be part of the teams, they are expected to fulfil their commitment to the Club by making themselves available for the galas (usually a Saturday evening).  It is a fun evening when you get to swim against your peers from other local clubs and try to achieve a PB.

The Club also encourage swimmers to enter selected open meets during the year.  We usually list these in the Events Calendar and sometimes on the notice board at the pool – so please keep an eye open for them.  Also scheduled during the year, are the Wiltshire county competitions.  These are competitions for the best swimmers in the Wiltshire clubs to compete against each other and we have swimmers regularly competing in them.

Dates of all the league galas, county and regional competitions can be found on the Wiltshire Swimming website and can be downloaded here.  Please note though that this is a draft calendar and is subject to change so please keep checking.

To be eligible to enter, however, a swimmer must gain the entry time appropriate to their age – the entry times and more details are available here.

Much more information about competitions generally, including some tips on how to enter open meets, lane etiquette, diet etc. can be found within the Top Tips section.
